My Favorite Pieces of Advice

1). Just say yes

I have to admit, this piece of advice came from watching a video blog from Mary Beth Evans. Someone asked her what the best piece of advice she’d ever gotten was, and she said it was when her husband said to just say yes to things. Sometimes I say yes to things even when my schedule is busier than usual, and I think, “Why in the world did I agree to this?” However, I find that nine times out of ten, I’m glad I did by the time it’s over. (Check out www.plankblog.com, because Mary Beth is the best!)

2). Don’t compare your chapter one to someone else’s chapter ten

I’ve always believed that things happen when they’re supposed to, and nothing ever happens by accident. Especially as an actress, it’s really hard to not compare your down time to someone else’s busy, what seems like constant work or performance schedule. With social media in particular, it’s so easy for people to paint their lives to be better than they really are. Moral of the story; be so busy watering your own grass, you’re too busy to notice if other peoples is greener.

3). If it won’t matter in five months, don’t spend more than five minutes worrying about it

This is one I still struggle with. It’s so easy for me to over-analyze a situation, especially when I'm already struggling to keep my anxiety under control. The bottom line is, we tend to blow things out of proportion, and make them a much bigger deal than they really are. It’s hard to let things roll off our shoulders, but sometimes, it’s the best way to keep your sanity in check.

4). Invest in yourself; you’re worth it

Investing in yourself is such a broad spectrum, because there are so many things you can do. It can be anything from working out, to getting your yearly physical, to saving that extra bit of money you made last month. It’s so important to watch out for yourself, because at the end of the day, you’re the only one that will.

5). If you aren’t making mistakes, you aren’t making decisions

Nobody is perfect, and everybody makes mistakes. The only way to learn and grow is to make mistakes. Making the decision to go for something is so much better than staying stuck in one place. A mistake isn’t a life sentence, it’s a life lesson.
