Personal Development: Why It's Important & What I'm Doing

I think we can all agree that personal development is so important. However, let’s be honest; do we really carve out enough time to actually do it? Definitely not! Up until very recently, it wasn’t on my radar as much as it should’ve been. Regardless of where you’re at in life, personal development is essential for moving forward and bettering yourself. So, in this week’s blog post, I wanted to share the importance of making time for personal development, and what I’m currently doing to make it happen!

Personal development is essential for a few reasons. First, it gives you an opportunity to reevaluate where you are, and where you want to go. It serves as a wakeup call if you need to make a change. Second, it gives you an opportunity to reframe and rewire your thoughts. How many beliefs do you have that you know aren’t realistic, but you can’t seem to shake them? Sometimes, it’s the process of acknowledging a thought, writing it down, reframing it, and rewiring it. Our brains are trained to keep us in the space it thinks is safe and comfortable, rather than learning something new. It doesn’t understand that this new belief is also safe, it’s just unfamiliar.

Personal development can happen in so many ways. You can read, journal, listen to a podcast, the list is endless! Now, let’s dive in to what I’m currently doing for personal development.

1). Reading

I love having a physical book to read and take notes in. There are so many great self-development books out there! I’m currently reading Get Over Your Damn Self by Romi Neustadt. My extra tip; keep sticky notes handy so you can mark important points!

2). Podcasts

I’m a BIG podcast girl, and there are so many good ones out there! Currently, I’m loving the BossBabe podcast with Natalie Ellis and Danielle Canty, and Limitless Life with Melissa Griffin.

3). Bullet Journal

It’s no secret how much I love my bullet journal! What I love is that there are so many different ways to use them, and they are totally customizable! You can search Pinterest for hundreds of ideas that will get your creative juices flowing.

Are you into personal development? If so, what are you currently using? Share your thoughts below!
